This morning, on my patio, having replaced several of my plants that didn’t survive the summer, I sit quietly, contemplating family and confusing current events,
I open my special journal, which I started in January (link). As an alternative to making resolutions, which nobody keeps, it was suggested that I pick one word to focus on for the year. I chose to focus on “Light.”
And it worked. Amazingly, my journal is 3/4 full. Looking back through the pages, I remember in January thinking, “How in the world am I going to fill up these blank pages?” Starting with dictionary definitions, google searches, lyrics, youtube clips, Scripture verses, I managed to make a short entry just about every day.
Scanning back through the pages, I take deep breaths, peace flows into my soul. Through the dark confusion, there is Light. Not necessarily the answers to perplexing questions, just the knowledge that God’s Light is real; and focusing on His Light, quiets and calms my spirit.
I invite you to pick a word, a positive word, one that causes you to stop and reflect, take some deep breaths, be at peace, even if it’s just for a few moments as you face the many unknowns in your life.
