2024 reflection #1 – AI takes over the world

I’ve had a computer love-hate relationship for over 40 years. All of these efforts, struggles, angst wasted, it’s all so simple now.
– Thrilled to have 10 pages of word processing before changing disks, after decades with typewriters
– Learning simple programming
– Frustration as components and programs don’t “talk”  to each other
– Developing websites since the early Apple days
– One of the first to become certified in online learning (developing graduate classes and teaching)
– One of the first to be certified in distance counseling.

And now, I find AI takes over, replacing what I have enjoyed and devoted most of my life to.
> Research, I loved looking through card catalogues and searching through books and journals. Then I was thrilled using computerized data bases. Then Googling, which has now become a chore. However, I am reliably informed that researching is all done through AI.
> Now I find out that my other love, writing, there is no need as AI can produce writing better than 90% of authors.
> Helping others develop websites and self-publishing online, is all AI generated.

AI Thoughts
In my 70th decade of life, I don’t have it in me to master something new that will be so advanced in a few years.

I wonder:
– Will the wisdom of older generations be valued again, or will we just slip away like the dinosaurs?
– As AI, without guardrails, advances through civilization and human relationships, do advocates really believe utopia will be realized?
– Perhaps AI will find an answer to my rapidly decreasing eyesight

Unlike Pinky and the Brain, whose daily attempts to take over the world end up with, “Rats, try again, tomorrow,” AI, on its rapidly accelerating course, will invade our world. I predict a rocky road for my progeny. My prayer is always for more peace on Earth.
